Abstract: Having control over the prized electromagnetic spectrum is of essential importance in the electronic warfare (EW) scenario. The application of the ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) proves to be an indispensable choice for the same. Our work deals with the simulation of ECM, a technique used in the Electronic Warfare scenario. These methods are employed to cause disruption in the normal usage of the electromagnetic spectrum by the adversary. This document details the attempts to simulate common ECM techniques, that are applied for gaining the control of the electromagnetic spectrum, limiting the adversarys usage of their ESM (Electronic Support Measures) equipments. Effective ECM application proves to be a force multiplier in crticial EW scenario. The work also involves designing a wireless controller which controls the signals jammer. This controller uses an embedded platform which enables the link to be established for wireless communication. A virtual instrumentation software has been used to simulate the basic radar jamming techniques and the signal emission pattern of the basic ECM techniques, which serve the basis of the sophisticated ECM systems are simulated. Applications of operating principles of the techniques of Noise, Spot, Barrage, Swept jamming are simulated. The embedded platform used is a complete computing device based on GNU-linux, which has an ARM processor as the CPU. The Zigbee (IEEE 802.15.4) modules interfaced to the embedded platform, are used for establishing a wireless link for sending the control signals.
